Using externally-authenticated user IDs and passwords

The requirements for user IDs and passwords vary according to the authentication system that defines them. The only requirement that affects a Progress application is where you configure user IDs for database and other OpenEdge authorization purposes. User IDs defined for OpenEdge authorization features are limited in length to the maximum length of the 4GL CHARACTER data type.
